Hey babes. First of all, I just wanted to say thank you. Thanks for following, liking, commenting, reading, and making my little corner of the internet such a fun and rewarding place. I have been blown away by the incredible ladies I’ve gotten to know and truly love what i’m doing!
With that said, aside from the fact that i’m a coffee addict with a thing for neutrals and cute pair of shoes, y’all don’t know much about me! I figured I would answer your questions and let you all learn a little more about the girl behind the blog. To cover the basics, i’m April. I’m a twenty year old college student studying Elementary Education and i’m from Orange County, California. I started Darling April three months ago.
What inspired you to become a blogger?
Before I ever thought about blogging myself, I followed tons of amazing bloggers. I loved that they had this amazing platform to express themselves and do what they were passionate about. Once I learned about the business side of blogging, I was so intrigued by the idea of being my own boss, building something amazing from the ground up, and having a blast doing it. However, it was just a thought. I was always afraid of failing and never had the confidence to go for it. I always said “oh maybe when I have kids, i’ll start a mommy blog” or “I don’t dress cute enough to be one of those girls.” Then one day while talking to my boyfriend and family, I turned off that voice in my head and decided to take a leap of faith and go for it. I haven’t once regretted my decision and i’m so proud of myself for following my heart with this fun little dream of mine.
Who are your favorite bloggers?
This is tough because there are tons. I stumble across amazing ladies on a daily basis. I’ve been following Rach Parcell of Pink Peonies for years and really look up to her. She is beautiful, has incredible style, and is such an example to me. I also adore Katey from Chronicles of Frivolity and Emily from The Sweetest Thing. I’ve made a lot of blogger friends along the way so far, all of which have beautiful accounts & great blogs. I’ll name just a few of my sweet blogger friends… Brooke, Danielle, Meg, Lauren, Kate, Kelly, Tyler, Kendall, Jadie, and Morgan!
How do you manage everything while running a blog?
It’s totally trial and error! I live by my agenda, it keeps me from losing my mind. I have it divided into sections for school, work, and the blog. I try to use my time very wisely and I will admit, I schedule my mornings and evenings by the half hour to stay on top of everything. To-do lists are my sanity! It should be interesting once school starts, but I know i’ll be able to keep it all up if I stay committed and organized.
Have you always wanted to teach/ why do you want to be a teacher?
Working with kids is my passion and something I am really good at. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always been nurturing and loved to play with and teach my younger siblings. I nannied throughout high school but when I entered college, I studied business for the first year. After a bit of soul searching, I realized my dream career, and the one that would make me the happiest, had been right in front of me all along… teaching is a perfect fit for me. So I switched my major.
Teaching is so rewarding. I spent time in a kindergarten classroom this year and seeing how excited they are to be in your classroom, learning and spending time with you, was amazing. I can’t wait for the day when I have my own class and get to experience the chaos and amazing moments for myself.
(FYI… I want to teach lower elementary, kinder, first or second!)
What’s your go-to outfit?
I love a white tee shirt & great denim, it’s such a classic combo and never gets old. For summer… white tee, denim cutoffs, nude sandals & gold accessories. For fall/winter… white tee, a cozy cardigan, skinny ankle cut jeans, and booties.
I love that my wardrobe is full of amazing basics like those. I love to swap in the occasional trendy piece or fun accessory.
What’s your favorite fall trend this season?
I have a few that are tied! Booties, wool hats, and lace up shirts and sweaters. I plan on filling my fall wardrobe with all of the above!
Favorite brands/ stores?
For clothes, I primarily shop at Nordstrom… it’s so easy! For great basics I love Lush and Trouve. Free People has such fun pieces, their sweaters are my favorite. Vince Camuto makes the prettiest shoes. Lululemon is my favorite for leggings/ athleisure. Nike tennis shoes are what I wear about four days a week.
What’s your favorite drugstore makeup brand?
I love Maybelline for face products! Their foundation and concealer are permanent staples in my routine. Milani makes beautiful blush (color is Luminoso!) and Loreal Mascara has been my holy grail since middle school.
What’s your favorite lipstick & liquid lipstick?
Liquid: Kat Von D and Jouer both have incredible formulas!
Regular Lipstick: Mac is my all time favorite. The price is right and it’s so comfortable to wear. My go to shade is creme cup.
What do you use/ how do you curl your hair?
My short hair is so much fun to curl. I have this curling wand set and use the 28mm wand for smaller curls/ waves and the 32mm wand for big, soft curls. I love this set. If you guys are interested, I’d totally do a hair tutorial. But basically, I section my hair into three layers. I curl each piece alternating away and towards my face. When I wrap my hair around the wand, I leave a few inches out at the bottom so it gives me that casual wavy look. I repeat this over and over until all three layers are curled. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for reading and getting to know me! xo
