Happy Wednesday, y’all! I’m bringing you a beauty post today, which is rare around here. By no means does my lack of beauty posts reflect how much I love makeup and beauty products. I’m a huge girly girl and sitting down to do my makeup is one of my favorite parts of the day. I have an incredible arsenal of products and tend to stick to them. I don’t add new items into my routine very often, and in order to stay in the mix, they need to be amazing. While I love seeing hauls and first impressions on products, there is something to be said about what a woman carries in her makeup bag. All of these products are tried and true and some have been in my routine since I first started wearing makeup in middle school.
First, let me tell you a little about my style as far as beauty and makeup go. As you may know, i’m a full time college student and I nanny. I don’t have a job that requires me to get glammed up by any means… but I still love to. Doing my makeup is really relaxing for me. I love to put on music or a show and take a good half hour having fun with makeup. I tend to go for a full face most days, even if i’m just going to be at school. It makes me feel good! I love the look of flawless and glowy skin (who doesn’t?), pronounced eyes, and neutral lips. I rarely venture into color which should be no surprise if you know anything about my personal style.
Skincare is the number one factor that goes into a good makeup look. I’ve gotten more serious about taking care of my skin recently. I suffered from awful cystic acne all through middle school and part of high school but thanks to Accutane, I have very clear skin now. I suffer from dryness, occasional redness, and large pores. My two favorite moisturizers are this cream and this oil. I love using the cream at night and a skin thin layer of oil in the morning. These two keep my skin hydrated very well. I also suffer from extremely dry, chapped lips. This Winter, they got so bad that they cracked in the corners (gross, I know) and the only product that healed them was this. I apply this nightly and my lips stay healthy.
I swear by this drugstore foundation. I have never felt the need to buy a higher end foundation because this one works perfectly for me. It’s a full coverage with a matte finish and stays put all day. If you put it on with a dense brush, it can look kind of thick, so I use a damp beauty blender to apply it. Beauty blenders are my favorite makeup tool because they make everything apply evenly and look far less cakey. I really love the look of a bright undereye area and this concealer is a miracle worker. I get it in the shade “brightener” which is pink. The pink tones help to cancel out dark circles and make me look much more awake. This product doubles as an eyelid primer for me. I apply a thin layer to my lids and set it with powder. This helps to create a good base for eyeshadow. I like to use bronzer to add dimension to my face. I’ve been using this palette for years and love the quality and color payoff. I typically focus the bronzer on the areas where my face has natural contours… under the cheekbones, sides of the forehead, and around the jaw. My favorite blushes are ones with a luminous finish because it makes your skin look radiant and glowy instead of flat. My favorites are this for a more neutral look, and this for a brighter pinky coral look. I finish my face with powder highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones. Most highlight powders are either too dark or too glittery for me. This highlighter creates the most beautiful glow and looks amazing on all skin tones. It’s luminous without being glittery and it’s very buildable.
I tend to keep my eyes very simple… groomed brows, black liquid liner, and big lashes. First I use this pencil to fill in and shape my brows. I don’t do much but the fine tip of the pencil allows me to create thin, natural strokes. To keep my brows in place, I use this gel. It’s a game changer for my brows! I don’t always wear eye shadow but when I do, my go to is an eyeshadow stick. This one is so versatile and easy to use. Let’s talk eyeliner… it feels like I’ve tried them all. I go back to this pen liner every time for it’s ease of use and mess free application. I hate messing with a super wet liquid liner. This one makes it so easy to achieve a wing! My favorite mascara of all time is this one from the drugstore. My mom and sister have always used this, it was my first mascara, and I use it to this day.
I typically go for a basic, neutral lip. To be completely candid, strawberry flavored chapstick is my go-to most of the time. It gives my lips a tiny bit of color and keeps them moisturized! If there is one lipstick that is my tried and true, it’s this. It’s the perfect “purse lipstick” to apply on the go. I love swiping on a thin layer to liven my look up a bit.
Wow, this was lengthy! See, I can ramble on about beauty and makeup forever. It’s such a fun topic and I absolutely love hearing about what works for other women. I’d absolutely love to hear what your tried and true beauty products are!
